How does distributive shock differ from hypovolaemic shock according to the chapter?
Distributive shock differs from hypovolaemic shock primarily in the status of circulating blood volume. In distributive shock, the blood volume remains normal, but there is widespread vasodilatation leading to decreased peripheral vascular resistance, which impairs cardiac output and blood pressure.
